Spanglish

Having dual citizenship feels like a split personality. Especially since it is an Anglo Saxon and Latin mix. The split wouldn't be as marked if it were a mix of only European heritage or a blend of Latin; I live between two worlds and it is noticeable. There are days when I am eminently English, collecting tea cups and inventing my wild garden, others I let down my hair, hang loose and dance like a fool until the break of dawn, listening to romantic songs or reading intense poetry by Gonzalo Rojas.
I love those two worlds equally; the subtlety of the English and the total Latin abandon all in one body swinging like a pendulum above the flame.

My language

I feel so fortunate to be able to do the things I like the most; to have discovered that passion that evades so many. Although I sometimes think too much about the meaning of it all, where it is taking me, what I've come to conclude is that it is my language period.
Ofcourse sometimes the language can by jibberish, sometimes it can be a chant, others it will be speaking in tongues, others it will be poetry, and yet others it will linger like a song.
The wonderful thing is that is a common language; there is a nation of us who speak it alike with certain accents appearing here and there.

Looking through drawers I found....

me regalo
la cabeza equilibrada
subyugando al corazon
tras eternas conversaciones sobre
templanza, prudencia y ......
tres elementos ausentes a los que hubo de buscarse
en el diccionario de la conciencia

tu has sido
puro inconsciente
libre no
de pecado

hoy cortaron la luz
y no estuviste para alumbrarme
el camino entre el horror y la causa
no estuviste ahi
en el pasillo del laberinto
para guiarme en la ceguera temporal

estabas lejos, recostado
entre la paja
mental
de un dia sabado extremadamente familiar

Constanza en esos dias de nostalgiA

Tratare de pulirla.

Saturday visiting my brother in Topanga Canyon

Tyler, Martin and AndreaAndrea's fresh picked veggies and fountain and homegrown pumpkins

Headed to Topanga Canyon yesterday to visit Martin, Andrea and Tyler. The winds that are now devastating Malibu had not picked up yet and the day was beautiful. Made lunch for Tyler and Martin (Shrimp Alfredo Pasta and strawberries from the Farmer's Market) and then headed up the drive to Andrea's house where she was tending to her vegetable garden and pruning an old plum tree. Hard to believe that today the sky is dark and ominous looking with over five wildfires in the area.

Tatiana & Jon Baja, Mexico when they were little

Just dug up this old black and white photo of Gigio and Cookie (Jon and Tatiana) taken back in the late 80's on a trip we took to La Mision, Baja California, Mexico.

Friendship

The past few days have brought surprise after surprise after surprise regarding friendship and being kind, gentle and aware of the needs and reasons of "others". Case in point-Dianne (please see favorite links), someone I have never met nor whose face I have ever seen, unselfishly helped me tune up my blog since I am so backwards when it comes to the more scientific side of my brain. I just keep going over the motions she took and I just can't believe there are such beautiful strangers out there. Coincidentally went to see My Best Friend (French Movie) and reaffirmed the importance of those tender mercies. Dianne, what a spirit you have.

Paulina, my Heart & Soul go out to you

Rosario,Armando,Jorgito,Vicente,Consuelo, Constanza, Florencia and Paulina vacationing in Maitencillo.
Today was also a very sad day since I heard that my Godmother's 11 child, daughter Laurita, passed away last Wednesday. Laurita was child number 11 and Paulina had already lost Francisca, her 5th child, many years ago so this must be very very hard for her. 9 children are still living and Constanza has recently given birth to her own child, Emilia. I feel helpless consoling her since she is so far away in Chile. Here are a few of my favorite photographs of my favorite venerable family in the world as I see it and an ATC I happened to make over the weekend before I found out.

In Search of Feng Shui (NOT)

As much as I try to become a minimalist, there are just too many beautiful things in the world to pass by. Since moving into my smaller home, I have had to sift through literally hundreds of boxes large and small and sort things out. Then find a place for them and hopefully give them enough space so they stand out. In the process I have had to do away with many of my collections which I have slowly listed on etsy. To part with some of them hasn't been easy. The house had begun to look like a museum/bazaar and things were accumulating on the floor. I suddenly realized that clutter can really overwhelm a space and create mental confusion rather than serenity so I have started to read about the truth behind decorating around the notion of Feng Shui. I think I have narrowed my walls to the bare essentials. Most of my artwork has been purchased from fellow artists and they are my dearest possesions; each one has a soul of its own and speaks so much about the people who made them. I share them with you as an homage to the endless possibilities.
