it's not all about me. there are days when i just reflect, observe, and admire, many times finding jaw dropping imaginings

just a few little creations before i leave, committed to my challenge group, previously known as MAMMA. like last year, we were to make handmade x-mas tree baubles. i so enjoyed the challenge last year that i had to participate again. here are my two so far, my goal being three or four.

i have no bottle caps so couldn't participate in the bottle cap dangle exchange and my brain just couldn't come up with any idea for the "what do you get when you cross a....with a which has some hilarious submissions so far. i love jans of her Cat saying "so what's occurring?"

burning the candle at both ends, literally since i haven't sold a thing in a week other than some supplies. trying so hard to save enough for my trip which is an eccentricity to begin with this year but i miss my mother so and must get down south to see my land before the native trees take over. oh well, it's either feast or famine on etsy and with more and more vendors, it's getting really hard to get noticed no matter how many tricks i've conjured.

here is a handmade journal i made and another tag as i finish off my day, droopy-eyed and ready for my before-falling-asleep reading. I'm reading Confessions of a Catholic Girlhood. I've always loved how Mary McCarthy writes; she is a master at using vocabulary in her descriptions. War & Peace I will take a break from since I've read over 100 pages of battlefield descriptions and i need to give it a rest.

while i am at (cleaning out and purging) i take a look back at what i have created over the years. being self critical and hopefully honest with myself, i see that there are only a few favorites, meaning only a few that i would actually want to keep or own myself. here is a synthesis of some of my favorite pieces:
what surprises me the most is the different mediums i have used over the years and how i have wondered off in so many directions. i wish, sometimes, i could go back to the period when i was making my wrapped dolls, i look back on them and they really were enjoyable to make. i also wish i had a better skill saw to make more of my domino assemblages which i also look back on with pride.

another day of plenty. after cleaning out my art supplies i was able to think better and select the items i really thought i would use in the process ridding myself of alot of found objects which tend to be cumbersome for me. one of my most loyal customers already grabbed a large destash of religious items not less than an hour after i had listed them. i can;t wait to see what she makes with them since they are glorious.

although there is still more to sort out, i stopped midway through the afternoon and pulled out my stack of shipping tags which i had been hoping to work on for ages. this is what i came up with. one lonesome atc also made it out from the sifting of collage images. i love how they turned out. well, i do today, might not like them at all in a few months which happens sometimes when looking back on ones work.

i can't believe it's already saturday and past 10 a.m., this week has been a whirl. what with unpacking all the boxes from the fair, putting everything away, listing what didn't sell and finish a custom order for 6 of my crochet berets and then drive them into the canyon for delivery. they were thrilled with them and have ordered more to give as gifts to friends and family for Christmas. today i must make time to clean house, take care of myself, and start to pack my suitcase, mostly things my friends have asked me to buy for them.

however, these hands continue their quest for beauty and managed to pull out some beads to create a felt purse. wish i could keep it since i love the colors and texture. but need every penny i can save between now and the 5th since we havedecided to take a trip into Bariloche, crossing seven lakes across the Andes while we're there. it's not every day that you get to go to the Patagonia and it is one of the last ecosystems left in the world so a must. wish i could venture even further south into the Torres del Paine but that will have to be next time.

other than the fact that it was 90 degrees in the shade on sunday, my experience of a face to face street fair was fantastic. i loved setting up shop and putting together my little corner, reminiscent of the art fairs from the 60's and 70's before all the imports. the day went by in a flash; there must have been a million people there, and all the dog breeds imaginable. i barely had time to lunch and only once did i wander off to talk to the other vendors to see what others are making and how they were doing in sales. unfortunately many of them didn't even get their booth fees back. i was very fortunate to come out ahead a few hundred dollars, mostly sold my smaller items.

i met the most wonderful people. in particular, one woman, Geri, who came back four times, each time bringing back her friends and family. i befriended her immediately since she is starting a new Charter School in Thousand Oaks and we had a lot to talk about. the picture of her here does her no justice since she is really pretty. she was definitely my biggest fan together with a younger girl (no pic) who also came back twice and bought three items from me, taking my card to spread the word. these were the rewards of the day.

Geri
then there was the surprise appearance of my brother who came to give me moral support. he was so funny, luring customers in saying: look, look what my sister made", he was a charmer. he never fails to surprise me with his unconditional love.

i wish i had time to take more pictures and hope my friend veronica has more on her camera to share with me when she returns from Berkeley where she headed monday after the show to see her daughter. she, too sold quite a few of her photographs and cards, but not as expected profit wise since the booth fee was very high.

setting up at 7:00 a.m after getting there at 6:00 a.m actually seeing the sun rise.

and now my gear shifts completely to the planning of my one month trip to CHILE CHILE LINDO, LINDO COMO UN SOL
