what a fun two weeks with watercolors and scribbles, sketching and drawing
monochromatic, negative space and larger formats, all new experiments as i delve deeper into my self described mixed medianism.

i also love using walnut inks instead of watercolors since i love the brown vintage hues.

this large drawing is all colored pencils
i keep defining myself as a mixed media artist, mixed medianism being that i don't like to use the same mediums too long at a time, these paper mache dolls being an example of the detour i took this week.

and then exploring some more darker paintings as i play with brown paper and watercolors.
there is a mysteriousness to watercolors
cathy cullis is having a brown paper art challenge in september. as i was reading about it, i got the urge to paint a cathy cullis inspired three toned watercolor thus the result above. i love the simplicity of her work which is not as easy as it looks since watercolors can be tricky. they even say among artists that it is the most difficult of mediums.

but i just play with them not expertly but with a keen will at exploration. watercolors are magical....they start to reveal images hidden in the layers of water and paint.
here is one of my darker ones. i have been subconsciously painting quite a few shielded women: armored, protected, vigilant.
followed by a lighter one

i explored a bit with using the watercors with other mediums attempting some depth and layering to the paintings.
such as this mail art i painted for my friend Emi in Canada.
and this one for julie as i needed to mail her my hand embroidered feathers anyway. why not make it mail art?
for one of her dreamcatchers.
julie was who got me turned on to
painting on rocks.
i love this newfound medium.
lullaby cd cover commissioned piece is still in the works as are a few more of my painted oyster shells
hope your week has been as creative as mine.

time does really fly when you are having fun.
for a while there i did not leave the studio, painting, painting, painting as i delved deeper into all i had learned from full circle workshop and all the new roads it had led me down.

so in between more plantings in the garden and more hangings in the kitchen i just kept at it, surprised at what was coming forth from my subconscious.
paperclay included
and some collage after a long time not enjoying it
and a new discovery.... plain paper and pencil drawings
and a random postcard for a friend in england
I have used a lot of blue
and red
experimenting with a bit of storytelling in my paintings, gradually going bigger
and finally finished this piece on wood and selling it

recycling boxes to make another gift for yet another friend titled "love the giver"

a true reflexion of a mixed media artist

i keep running out of time for making all that i would like

but i am filled with gratefullness that i am able to paint at all.

yo soy me digo en mi propio reflejo corporeo
yo soy en cada instante pasajero
soy un todo de a pedacitos
lo que me hace pensar
que hace el todo?
lo que queda grabado de lo que absorbo?
o no soy nada
ya que en cada instante
me evaporo?

in the art studio most of my evenings these days.  spring was slow in arriving. even the sweet pea seeds are questioning me?
but two days ago 82 degrees and an escapade to the beach where i found large shards of clam shells to draw on and one perfect flat rock.

alot has gone on since march 17. a trip to the city to take an assemblage workshop with molly meng at french general, among others.
i love what they have done to the city
modernizing it and making it people friendly.  so much so that i invited my daughter and we spent the night.
i just had to show her and have breakfast at porto's no matter how long the line.
plus they have the best fresh squeezed orange juice in the world. you see, they use the whole orange.
ofcourse we brought home tons of pastries from the bakery.
at night, americana.
with its beautiful water display and a visit to all the expensive shops we don't have locally such as anthropologie.  fell in love with their etched glasses but at $12 a piece had to control myself.  also a pair of reading glasses but they were $32.  crazy.
and then home again filled with inspiration.
so straight into straightening up the studio a bit more and prepping the tools for a new phase of Full Circle.
and it's been creative bliss ever since.
